Amitabh Sharma

A media professional and consultant on communication, Amitabh combines his subject knowledge with his communications and media profession that spans over 16 years.  He wears many hats, as an editor, writer, teacher, trainer and consultant.

Amitabh has headed special projects division at the New Indian Express, one of India's leading national daily, for three years. He has been involved in several social communication projects, in the area of promoting non-motorised transport for short distances.

He has been involved in several awarding winning projects with the Los Angeles Times, and was a part of a team on three continents that produced a sweeping series on how thousands of children in developing nations die each day of easily curable diseases such as measles. The three-part series “Theirs Are the Silent Deaths” won the Robert F. Kennedy Award for excellence in journalism in 1996.

Amitabh led a study to understand the landscape of higher education in India. The significant aspect of this published study was that it bought out information about professional education was innovating itself in India, particularly south India. Amitabh has also had the opportunity to research a comparative analysis of India and China, the two most populous countries in the world. The theme of the project was to showcase the two Asian giants on how they have fared vis-à-vis the other.

He is an adjunct faculty at CARIMAC and teaches nuances of writing for media and social communication.

Feature Writing for Magazines & Newspapers

Feature writers are (factual) storytellers. This hands-on course will help to stimulate participants to look beyond the obvious, identify, develop and write about the numerous stories unfolding around them daily and earn money. The workshop includes identifying topics; exploring various forms of feature writing; gathering information; writing clear, catchy and concise copy; and pitching stories to editors. These will be done through lecture, discussions, assignment, critique and analysis. This workshop is for inexperienced writers; people who want to turn their words into cash; people who want to write for newspapers and/or magazines.
